About This piece: Small boxes
In making these boxes, Mette has combined copper, a sensitive material that reacts to different treatments such as heat, acid and polishing, with the wood of the wych elm. The copper and elm share a softness and a glow.
Mette is Danish and trained in pottery at the Arts and Crafts School in Copenhagen. Since 1996 Mette has specialised in making boxes using natural materials such as wood, copper, amber, bone and horn. Most of her materials are recycled and found on the beach, woodpile or scrap yard.
