About This piece: Champagne glass holder
Champagne glass holder
Fiona developed her woodworking skills at the Thomas Chippendale School of Furniture near Gifford in East Lothian, where she was ‘Student of the Year’ in 2000. Since then she has gone on to design and make a wide range of furniture, from traditional Windsor chairs to contemporary yet functional pieces like her ‘butcher’s block’ chess tables.
Fiona’s innovative design for the champagne tray that she has contributed to the Wych Elm Project originated from a commission from an Edinburgh-based catering company. They asked Fiona to design something that would carry eight glasses safely, for serving during busy receptions. A considerable amount of prototyping was required to arrive at the perfect shape for carrying the champagne flutes, but the result is as elegant as it is functional. Every tray Fiona makes is unique, depending on the pattern in the wood.
