Isabell likes to bring her sense of humour and a strong personal connection into her work. Both are apparent in the Pixie Boots and Fairy Slippers that she has contributed to the Wych Elm Project. “The [Garden’s] wych elm,” she writes, “with its many gnarled branches and full leafy canopy, could have been a perfect living and hiding place for little creatures, mythical and real”. Elfin boots, sandals and slippers are crafted from handmade paper containing leaves and shavings from the wych elm, and decorated with small beads and adornments taken from the tree’s twigs.
